38th Annual Beach Day in Rehoboth will host senior citizens Sept. 19

CHEER is hosting the 38th Annual Beach Day in Rehoboth Beach, Friday, Sept. 19. Each year approximately 1,000 senior citizens and caregivers from throughout the State of Delaware attend this unique day which honors both senior citizens and the end of the summer season at the beach.

Beach Day will begin at 9 a.m. when the Healthy Living Expo opens its doors at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center and Rehoboth Fire Hall. This lifestyle fair is expected to include more than 60 vendors disseminating the latest in technology and health for persons 50-plus. Some vendors will offer:free gifts, educational materials, prevention opportunities including no cost screenings; free flu shots; and current information on a variety of healthcare topics.

At 10 a.m. the 2.4 Mile Walk/Stroll will start at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, going down Lake Avenue then down Third Street to Oak Avenue, down to Surf Avenue then to the home stretch walking the Boardwalk along the Atlantic Ocean, returning to the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand for an award ceremony and entertainment.

This year CHEER is proud to present a great line up of entertainment starting at 9 a.m., when headliner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend Jimmy Merchant, an original member of Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers, will kick off the live entertainment for the first hour singing the Teenagers' hits like “Why Do Fool Fall in Love,” “Goody Goody” and other Teenager hits of the that golden era of Rock and Roll.

Then at 10 a.m. the audience will be lifted spiritually by popular Kathy Dukes of Crossroads Community Church who will perform until 11 a.m.  From 11 a.m. to noon, Jimmy Merchant will return to center stage and entertain, and the day’s entertainment will conclude featuring modern and classic hits sung by local pop vocalist Cathy Gorman. Beach Day festivities will conclude at 2 p.m.
