AARP and YMCA to host free scam jam shred event July 11
Every two seconds, someone’s identity is stolen in America. Consumers also reported losing $1.7 billion to scams and frauds in 2014. That’s why AARP and the YMCA of Delaware are collaborating on a free scam jam shred event Saturday, July 11, at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth.
The event will arm individuals and their families with the tools needed to avoid current frauds and scams in Delaware. Attendees will learn about getting inside the mind of a con artist to avoid being a victim of identity theft.
Anyone with old tax documents, credit card bills, bank statements and the like may bring them to the AARP scam jam shred event and watch them be destroyed safely and securely by shred trucks in the parking lot. There is no charge to have bags or boxes of personal documents shredded at the event. The event will feature MIX 92.9 radio, refreshments and fun.
Those who sign up for the Fraud Watch Network will have their names entered into a raffle for prizes including an AARP Real Pad. The drawing will be held at 11 a.m., right before an informative question-and-answer session with a panel of experts. Attendees will hear all about current scams in Delaware.
