The Bayhealth Foundation recently organized an informative session on speech pathology, held at the Heritage Shores community. The event featured presentations from Bayhealth's speech pathology department.
At Bayhealth, speech pathologists evaluate, diagnose, treat and educate family members about speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
During the session, Rehabilitation Services Manager Meredith Sullivan, MS, CCC-SLP, FACHE, MBA, and Advanced Speech Pathologist Ashley Jones, MS, CCC-SLP, shed light on the distinctive tests offered by Bayhealth, with a particular focus on the FEES test (fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing). This procedure involves the insertion of a scope through the nose, providing a comprehensive view of the throat. Notably, Bayhealth is the sole health system in the state of Delaware to offer this testing, which significantly enhances the decision-making and diagnostic capabilities of speech pathologists.
