Heroic Early Dutch Efforts to Colonize Delaware—Lewes History
Kiliaen van Rensselaer, more than any person, had a vision of colonization for New Netherland (New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Delaware) as early as the 17th century. Others focused on trade, especially on fur, and on making big profits for themselves. Van Rensselaer, the director of the West India Company, was the only Dutch promoter of the New Netherland settlements to be successful. The event will take place at the Rollins Center, 101 Adams Ave., with admission at $10 per person. For more information, visit https://www.historiclewes.org/events/.
