Locally Made Gumbo, Craft Beer, Winter Gala all in the Spotlight this Weekend in the Coastal Region

February rolls on this week, as we inch our way toward the beginning of another Spring season here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

Daylight Savings Time will be starting again in a couple of weeks, baseball’s Spring training has begun in Florida and Arizona and the Daytona 500 is even in the books for another year. All of this points toward the end of Winter and the long awaited beginning of the warm weather months in the United States.

We’ve got a few great events to tell you about this week, headlined by a tasty annual event in Rehoboth Beach and a formal gala next door in Dewey. Keep reading below for much more on these and a handful of other fun happenings in and near the coastal region.

We begin this week with a spotlight on coastal Delaware’s thriving local restaurant scene…

Rehoboth Beach Gumbo Crawl (February 22). Skip breakfast this Saturday, February 22, so you can be good and hungry for the 202o edition of the Rehoboth Beach Gumbo Crawl.

Scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m., several area restaurants are participating in this year’s event, including the Purple Parrot GrillCafe AzafranZoggs Raw Bar & Grill, the Rehoboth Ale House and several others.

Again with a Mardi Gras theme, ballots for the event cost $10 each and allow you to taste a variety of delicious creations at any or all of this year’s participating restaurants.

Dewey Beach Winter Gala (February 22). The 2020 Dewey Beach Winter Gala is scheduled for this Saturday, February 22, beginning at 8 p.m., at the newly opened Lighthouse Cove Event Center.

Hosted by the Dewey Business Partnership, the event was designed by founder Steve Montgomery as a way to raise money for town projects during the offseason.

Several local restaurants are providing food for the event, including the StarboardWoody’sHammerheadsGrotto Pizza and many more.

The 2020 theme is “Vegas,” with live entertainment provided by The Blue Cats Blues Band, Kristen & The Noise and The Amish Outlaws.

Tickets are $90 can can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com.

Beer Drinker’s Choice Awards (February 23). Now here’s a fun local event for all of the beer drinkers in the area!

Scheduled for Sunday, February 23, from 12 to 4 p.m., this event features craft breweries throughout Delaware and will be held at the Crooked Hammock Brewery in Lewes.

Awards include “Fan Favorite,” “Best Facial Hair,” “Best Costume” and “Best Beer Drinker.”
