Upcoming Events at the Delaware and Maryland Beaches

January 4, 2023

With all of the Christmas and New Year's activities now behind us, it's time to settle in for the rest of the offseason at the Delaware and Maryland beaches and throughout the region.

As with most years, weekly events really slow down between the first week of January and the middle of March. And this year is no different.

There's really not much going on this weekend in terms of events, festivals and gatherings. But we encourage everyone to get outside and enjoy some of the great restaurants along the "Culinary Coast," along with other offseason activities like walking on the beach, seeing a local show, doing some tax-free shopping and whatever else interests you.

For this week, we're going to preview a few events that are coming up over the next few weeks, wintertime happenings we can all look forward to.

Here's what's coming up between now and early February at and near the Delaware beaches...

Delmarva Art Expo (January 14-15)

This sixth annual event will be held at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City and is planned for January 14 and 15.

Featuring handcrafted artwork from regional artisans, there will be plenty to see and do over the two days of this offseason event.

The expo is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The cost is $3 each day. Learn more at delmarvaartexpo.com.

Bethany Beach Fire & Ice Festival (January 27-29)

This popular wintertime event is coming back for another year of offseason fun in Bethany Beach.

Scheduled for January 27-29, the Fire & Ice Festival will feature ice sculpture tours, sculpture demonstrations, bonfires, fireworks, ice slides, a chili cook-off, live music and more over three days.

The theme for 2023 is "Lights, Camera, Action!"

Winter Delmarva Birding Weekend (January 27-29)

This event is happening for the eighth time in 2023 and is scheduled for the weekend of January 27-29 at the Delaware beaches.

Trips scheduled for this year's birding weekend include Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Cape Henlopen State Park, Ocean City and others.

This event is held in partnership with the Dogfish Inn in Lewes, which will serve as basecamp for the birding weekend.
