The Delaware premiere of “Deaf Santa Claus,” a new feature documentary film, is set for 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Movies at Midway, 18585 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach.
In collaboration with the Deaf Santa Claus Foundation, the accessible and family-friendly screening includes visible, open captions displaying dialogue, speaker names and sound effects.
With an uncanny resemblance to the iconic holiday figure, Charles Graves pursues his dream of becoming a professional Deaf Santa Claus. The filmmakers follow Charles and his family as he attends Santa school and gathers support along the way, striving to better provide for his loved ones.
Co-directed by Ben Shelton and Anthony Mowl, the documentary connects Deaf and hearing worlds through a story rooted in access, identity and community resilience.
“Rehoboth Beach and surrounding communities are home to an active and engaged Deaf and hard-of-hearing population supported by local schools, local organizations, early intervention programs and accessibility services,” said Evan Winegard, executive producer. “This strong foundation of advocacy and inclusion makes Rehoboth Beach a meaningful stop on the national ‘Deaf Santa Claus’ tour.”
