‘No Pressure’

May 17, 2018

Golf:
Golf's Players Championship was last week. This is considered the 5th major tournament on the PGA Tour. Web Simpson played very well in the first three rounds, giving himself a huge 7 stroke lead going into the last round. He coasted to an easy 4 shot victory.

The tournament is played at TPC Sawgrass in Jacksonville, Florida. The course has become quite famous, thanks to this tournament having been held there for 36 years. If you ever played the Tiger Woods original video game on PlayStation 1, this course was featured and especially the Island Green at the 17th hole. Tiger's voice always encouraged the game players to feel, "No pressure."

Tiger Woods played very well over the weekend to finish in a tie for 11th place. However, he didn't take his own advice and definitely felt the pressure on Sunday on number 17. His tee shot went for a swim. If he continues to play well, he should be able to win a tournament by the end of the golf year.

I am very happy for Web Simpson's win because he proved he wasn't just a one hit wonder after the win he had way back at the 2012 US Open. He was one of the most affected players by the 2016 banning of the long shaft "belly" putter. He had to relearn the art of putting and his new putter served him well this past weekend.

Baseball:
The Philadelphia Phillies are still in second place in their division. I hope they actually get to play all of their scheduled games this weekend. The weather this week has been very unpredictable. The Phillies had two rainouts this week; one a home game against the New York Mets, and one in Baltimore against the Orioles.

The starting pitching has turned the corner and has been a key part of their 24 wins in the first 40 games. Let's hope this is not an anomaly.

See you on the sidelines!!
