Active Adults Realty opens in downtown Lewes

Bill and Christine Davis bought business in 2021 starting at Savannah Road office

Active Adults Realty held a ribbon-cutting Nov. 11 for their second Lewes location at 104 Second St.

The 1504 Savannah Road site will remain the company's main office because of easy access to parking. Bill Davis, owner/broker, and his wife Christine Davis, owner/associate broker, purchased Active Adults Realty in April. The company has grown to include 19 other Realtors, and most are certified as seniors real estate specialists.

The founders of Active Adults Realty in 2001, Bill Bell and Kathy Sperl-Bell, are still working for the company.

The new office in downtown Lewes next to Bramble and Brine at The Buttery has been a mainstay on Second Street as a residence since 1925.

The effort to transform the existing space into an office/home was a long journey. After settling on the property in December 2019, Bill Davis said, they were prepared to present their plans to the Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission in March 2020 when the COVID-19 state of emergency was declared and everything was put on hold.

The effort got back on track in fall 2020, and construction began in November 2020. In the meantime, the couple did nearly all of the interior demolition themselves, filling up five dumpsters in the process, Christine said.

The porch on the first floor was rebuilt, and a second story was added above it with additions to the back of the building as well. Now, it has two conference rooms, a reception area and five offices. The couple lives in the renovated second and third floors.

Christine said marketing to seniors and retirees is their niche, but they still provide service to anyone buying or selling a property. Their website touts the sale of a distinct coastal lifestyle to potential clients.

Christine is a U.S. Air Force veteran who received her real estate license in 2003.

Bill has been an active, award-winning Realtor and broker in Sussex and Kent counties since 2005.
