Add a roundabout, not McDonald’s

January 10, 2023

Milton town officials, Sussex County Council, DelDOT, and anyone with common sense: This is your chance to collaborate and make a smart decision for the betterment of Milton and all who will pass through the Route 16-Union Street intersection.

A roundabout is the right decision for this intersection, not a business (any business) that will add more traffic and congestion to this already dysfunctional intersection.

Route 16 is a major tourist route, with volumes of additional traffic about to be added by the Milton residential building boom. The Route 16-Union Street intersection is a crossroad that has been congested for years because there are no turn lanes. One vehicle waiting to turn blocks all trailing vehicles. This blockage occurs in all four directions.

Rather than adding a business and congestion to this already congested dysfunctional intersection, collaborate and adopt a forward-thinking solution. Use roundabout engineering, eminent domain to gain access to needed real estate, and stimulus and planned future funding to pave the way for Milton’s traffic flow.
