AFib patient tells Beebe to keep up the great work

August 17, 2021

I have had atrial fibrillation for 20 years. My condition is under control, meaning that I can go in and out of AFib without intervention. However, on April 28, as I was driving to work on Route 24, I felt myself going into a very serious AFib episode. At the intersection of Route 24 and Coastal Highway, I knew I had to make a decision. If I turned right, I would have continued to work. Instead, I turned left and drove myself to Beebe’s Emergency Department in Lewes.

I was able to park my car and walk into the Emergency Department. The nurse there listened attentively to me, got me a wheelchair and took me back to receive care. After a call to my cardiologist, I was admitted for observation and a nuclear stress test. Every single person I interacted with was great, and my care was exceptional. I was so moved by my experience that I sent a donation and a letter to Beebe Medical Foundation.

My letter read, “I would like to make this small contribution in recognition of the excellent treatment I received during my recent stay in your Lewes hospital. I walked into your emergency room during an AFib episode and was quite scared and worried about my condition. As soon as I entered the building, I was put at ease by the attention given by the attending staff. There is not one particular staff member I can isolate for exceptional care as everyone that came to my side was fantastic and was giving me the most positive treatment. The ER doctor and all the nurses, the second-floor nurses, the techs in the nuclear testing lab and, of course, the nurses and techs in the cardio lab were all 100% great. Keep up the good work.”

Although we are new to Delaware, both my wife and I have had experiences at Beebe. Every time, we were made to feel comfortable, and the staff was professional and reassuring. So, I’ll reiterate here what I wrote in my letter – keep up the good work, Beebe!
