Alphonso James Cottman Jr., very charismatic

Alphonso James Cottman Jr.  of Magnolia, beloved  son of the late Lethia and Rev. Alphonso James Cottman Sr., was born Sept. 13, 1960, in Wilmington. Al, as he was affectionately known, departed this life Friday, Feb. 12, 2021 at Kent General Hospital in Dover at the age of 60.

Al received his early education in the Colonial School District and attended DeLaWarr High School. He participated in the band and was a member of the wrestling team.

Al later worked at various jobs including forklift operator, construction worker and driver for Wilmington Trust Bank. He later relocated and worked at poultry plants in Sussex County and Maryland.

Al became a member of the Union American Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age. He was a member of the Sunday School Department and served as an usher for the church. He later joined a nondenominational church in the Dover area. He loved the Lord and accepted Christ as his personal Savior.

Al was very charismatic and possessed an infectious mile. He was known for his jovial personality, humor, teasing and kindheartedness. Al enjoyed music and fellowship. At a young age, he took drum lessons.

Al met the love of his life, Anna Satchell, in 2004. He enjoyed spending time with the family and helping out wherever he was needed.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved fiancée Anna Satchell and family, Twanda (Steven Jr.), Maurice (Yvonne), Janet (Eric) and Jestina (Steven); grandchildren: Steven III, Persia, Jeremiah, Maurice Jr., Ny'Iona, Marquan, Mauriceonna, Cassius and Julien; siblings two brothers: Clayton Gulledge Sr., and Lowell Cottman; and three sisters, Claire Cottman King, Lethia Cottman Asare and Laura Cottman Furrowh (Larry). Also mourning his loss are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held 9:30 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, at McPherson Funeral Services, Inc., Camden.
