American Legion Post 17 honors heroes throughout town

June 7, 2021

The American Legion Post 17 family of Lewes recently recognized and honored veterans by creating two poppy cemeteries.

One was created at a highly visible entrance to the City of Lewes, and the other at Post 17 itself.

Friends, families and visitors alike were welcome to stop by the post and write the name of a soldier lost in service on memorial tags to place beside poppies in the yard.

Featuring U.S. flags, red poppies and white crosses, these “cemeteries” created a stark reminder of what Memorial Day is all about. This simple yet meaningful tribute allowed the community to pause for a moment, bow heads and – with veterans in mind – say with gratitude and pride, “Thank you for your service.”
