Anita Marie Baker Wright, retired teacher
Anita Marie Baker Wright, 87, passed away peacefully Monday, June 23, 2025. She was born Jan. 13, 1938, in Sussex County and was the daughter of the late James Woodrow Wilson and Bessie Maud (Davidson) Baker. Anita graduated from Georgetown High School in 1955 and went on to earn both her undergraduate degrees in education (1959) and her master’s degree (1980) from University of Delaware.
Anita taught at the elementary level for 37 years in the Smyrna and Indian River school districts before retiring in 1996. She was a member of several charitable organizations, including Pocahontas Anona Council No. 11, Cheerful Notes Glee Club, Indian River Power Squadron, Indian River Yacht Club, Red Hat Society, and AARP. She enjoyed cats, being a MomMom, reading, and arts and crafts.
Anita is survived by her son, Kevin Tracy Wright; daughter-in-law, Heather (Hendricks); grandsons, N. “Tyler” Wright and Joshua Wright; siblings, Myrna Smith (Joseph), Wayne Baker (Frances), Allan Baker, Carol Elliott and J. Denise Baker. Additionally, her legacy will be honored by her numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
