Atlantic Kitchen and Bath wins Regal Awards

June 9, 2018

Atlantic Kitchen and Bath of Lewes was awarded three Regal Awards from the Home Builders Association of Delaware for building excellence. The awards were for Best Kitchen Design, Best Master Suite Design and Best Renovation Over $50,000.

When planning and building a kitchen for a master chef, the details are everything. The Best Kitchen Design winner was thoughtfully designed and carefully crafted using the finest materials, fixtures and appliances available. Cabinetry was varied in color with upper lighted glass doors, roll-out drawers, spice racks and a recycle waste chute, and includes stainless steel-lined shelving for pots and pans. Appliances include a professional gas range and oven with a custom range hood, a wine cooler, a Wolf refrigerator with French doors and drawers, and a Sub Zero freezer in the spacious pantry. This kitchen is functional but also beautiful with light oak flooring, white marble counter tops with an island prep sink, mirrored and opaque glass backsplash, and a beautiful oval window overlooking the Turquay Canal and Rehoboth Bay.

The Best Master Suite Design winner's many exceptional features include a barrel vault ceiling in the yoga room with an arched window, a vaulted ceiling in the bedroom bisected by a second sloping barrel vault, a tray ceiling in the bath, arched doorways and an outside shower with curved topped walls. These extremely complicated features were framed by hand by skilled craftsmen; the bisecting sloping barrel and vaulted ceiling intersection took four iterations alone. The tray ceiling and bath features multiple layers of trim and wainscoting to provide the warmth and detail the owner demanded. The bathroom cabinetry is custom made and assembled in pieces on-site. A custom-fitting closet system was designed and installed. The height and curves of the outside shower walls were determined so the owner would have perfect views of the water while still providing privacy, and finished capping was accomplished by heating and bending a piece of PVC to the perfect shape.

The Best Renovation Over $50,000 winner was a full kitchen renovation with a focus on ADA design. The challenge was incorporating Universal Design features and blending them seamlessly with an updated design. The goal was to take full advantage of this small kitchen and breezeway and opening them up to create a much larger kitchen so that it blended effortlessly but created convenience to the disabled occupant. Since the other areas in the home were older, this needed to be a workable space that would flow well with the rest of the home but also allow for handicapped/wheelchair access without compromising the look or feel of this updated, modern and highly functional kitchen. The result was a fully updated kitchen that is very accessible to this homeowner and allows for aging in place, which was their number one concern.
