Author Casey Cep to join online book discussion April 15

April 9, 2020

The History Book Festival, the Lewes Public Library and the Delaware Division of Libraries will present Casey Cep, author of the bestseller “Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud and the Last Trial of Harper Lee,” in a discussion via online meeting platform Zoom at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 15.

This event is free, but registration is required. To register, go to www.lewes.lib.de.us and click on Virtual Programs for Adults. Registrants will be sent information on how to join the discussion the day before the event.

Cep’s appearance marks a new format for the History Book Festival Discussions, which are customarily held at the library with an author participating via Skype. Dogfish Head sponsors these monthly meetings.

A popular selection at the 2019 History Book Festival, Cep’s book traces how Harper Lee helped her friend Truman Capote research his best-selling “In Cold Blood.” Some 17 years later, Lee returned to her native Alabama intending to write her own true-crime classic. She spent a year interviewing people at the trial of a vigilante who shot a rural preacher who had evaded justice after allegedly murdering five family members for insurance money. Exploring the mystery of artistic creativity, “Furious Hours” is a moving portrait of one of history’s most beloved writers and her struggles with fame and success.

Those seeking a copy of “Furious Hours” are urged to contact Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach, the official bookseller for the History Book Festival. Browseabout is conducting business via phone. To reach Browseabout, call 302-226-2665 or go to www.browseaboutbooks.com.
