On to baseball

May 10, 2018

The Philadelphia 76ers lost last night to the Boston Celtics in the second round of playoffs, bringing an end to their very successful season. The 76ers made huge steps this season. Ben Simmons needs to become a much more consistent shooting point guard over the off-season for the Sixers to become a true championship contender.

There have been rumors about LeBron James wanting to come to Philadelphia. I won't believe this until he actually makes his announcement in July, if he takes the opportunity to opt out of his current contract. That would sure make things interesting for the 76ers next season.

For now it's a great time to be a Philadelphia sports fan. Even the Phillies are in first place in their league. The whole team is playing very well. In the last two games against the San Francisco Giants, the Phillies have scored 19 runs. That kind of hitting will win almost any game.

I don't know how sustainable this level of play will be for the team. I expect the Washington Nationals to wake up at some point and start playing well, but for now I will continue enjoying seeing the Phillies surprise me on any given day.

The high school lacrosse season is winding down. I finally got to go see the Cape High school boys lacrosse game last week in their match against Tower Hill School. Cape was able to win the game very easily 17 to 5. As great as it was to see a solid win, they need to stop taking shots from so far out if they are going to do well against the better teams in the state playoffs. Look for that last pass, guys.

The Kentucky Derby took place on a very dangerous track. The recorded rain that day broke all records for the weather for that race. Justify's win will interest me enough to follow the second leg of the Triple Crown races next week in Baltimore at the Preakness stakes. That was a tough race to watch because I just wanted to see it end with none of the horses getting hurt in those conditions. Hopefully the Preakness will be run in great weather.

See you on the sidelines!
