The Beach Paper Winter Survival Guide

September 1, 2022

After this issue, Beach Paper will be but a fond memory. Of course, we’ll be back in the spring, but The Rehoboth Foodie is fretful over your off-season nourishment. How will you muddle through without your weekly helping of Steppin’ Up To The Plate?

As part of our community outreach, I’ve assembled a handy winter survival guide. You might want to cut this out and have it professionally laminated or better yet, tattooed somewhere easy to access.

The next big event is the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival (Oct. 12-16) when restaurants serve up live music along with their regular menus. In fact, 1776 Steakhouse gets a head start on Wednesday, Oct. 12 with former Glenn Miller Orchestra saxophonist Cody Leavel and Hammond Hot! Jazz Trio. Extensive studies have proven that the 1776 Tomahawk ribeye pairs perfectly with jazz organ and sax. Fall Sidewalk Sale (from 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7 to Sunday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.) and Sea Witch Festival (Oct. 28-30) turn Rehoboth back into August again, minus the meters. If it’s warm, expect everybody to be open, with lunch specials as you shop, and bewitchin’ dining deals for Halloween.

You won’t go hungry in November when eateries dish up traditional buffets and prix fixe dinners for Thanksgiving. When vacationers aren’t looking, pretty much everybody gets into the act over the holidays during the downtown tree lighting (Nov. 25). And at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, Santa will be presiding over the Rehoboth Beach Hometown Christmas Parade presented by the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company. And you can celebrate the New Year pretty much anywhere, though not many local places make it all the way to midnight.

Polar Bear Plunge brings warming happy-hour potions, and President’s Day/Valentine’s weekends see most restaurants open, at least part-time. Yes, do call for Valentine’s and Mothers’ Day reservations! Rehoboth dining is no longer a secret.

The off-season and holiday specials list at RehobothFoodie.com is kept as up-to-date as humanly possible (hours, moods, days and deals change with the wind – always call!). If you’re one of the fortunates who owns the Rehoboth In My Pocket travel app, just press “Off-Season Specials & Discounts.” And always keep an eye right here on capegazette.com for up-to-the-minute specials and events.

What better way to top off the season than with a shameless plug? See you in May.
