Beebe Healthcare officials thanked a dozen guard members Feb. 28 who helped out at the hospital during the COVID pandemic.
“You were a refreshing sight when you showed up,” said Dr. David Tam, president and chief executive officer for Beebe Healthcare.
Gov. John Carney called up the National Guard to work in hospitals across the state as COVID cases reached new highs in January 2022, putting stress on hospital staff.
Tam, who served as an officer in the Navy, said he remembered speaking with the governor about the hospital’s dire staffing situation. “I told the governor I just needed some able seamen,” he said, adding Carney answered by calling up the National Guard.
