#BideninRehoboth
For the second time this month, President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will be spending the weekend at their North Shores beach home. The couple was in town the first weekend of June to celebrate Jill’s birthday, which was June 3, and this weekend is Father’s Day.
According to the White House’s Daily Guidance and Press Schedule issued June 16, the presidential couple are leaving Washington, D.C., at 11 a.m., Friday, June 17, and are expected to arrive in the Rehoboth area by 11:55 a.m. The guidance doesn’t say when the Bidens will be leaving the area; it just says they’ll be in town through the weekend. However, the Federal Aviation Administration has issued a restricted flight-area notice that lasts until 7:15 p.m., Monday, June 20.
A reminder of security measures taken when Biden is in town:
- Gordons Pond users should expect restrictions. The park’s parking lot is just around the corner from the Bidens’ home and is used as a landing site for Marine One
- The FAA’s temporary flight restrictions limit use of the airspace from Dover south to Ocean City, Md., and west to the Maryland border
- The Coast Guard establishes security zones in the ocean area immediately in front of North Shores beach and in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal
- If there’s a perceived emergency, the Bidens could be rushed to the Rehoboth Beach Fire Hall on Rehoboth Avenue. That’s what happened when the Bidens were in town earlier this month after a plane accidentally entered the no-fly zone.
Since Joe was elected president, the Bidens have attended church, walked on the beach and gone for a few bike rides while in the Rehoboth Beach area. However, they have not gone out to eat or shopped downtown. If they do, send photos to reporter Chris Flood at cflood@capegazette.com.
