Biking and hiking in Olympic Peninsula with the Cape Gazette

November 1, 2023

Dee Calvert of Sarasota, Fla., and Cynthia Ritthaler of Milton enjoyed a week of biking and hiking in the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State from July 31 through August 4. They rode around Whidbey Island and in Fort Worden State Park, where “An Officer and a Gentleman” was filmed. Part of their ride took them to the Elwha River, which was the site of the largest dam removal in U.S. history. While in the Olympic National Park, they hiked to Hurricane Ridge, one of the highest points (6000 ft.) in the park. They loved hiking to Marymere Falls and into the forest of giant cedars, Douglas firs, and red alders. Coming back to the lodge, they were able to relax and read their favorite newspaper!
