Boys & Girls Clubs to honor Fred Hertrich IV March 9

January 14, 2019

Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware announced its honoree for the 2019 Great Futures Award is Fred Hertrich IV of the Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealerships. The award will be presented Saturday, March 9, at the 5th Annual Masquerade Ball.

The Great Futures Award is presented annually to an individual or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the community, exemplifying the highest ideals of organizational stewardship.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware is thrilled to honor Fred for his many years of dedication to our clubs and kids. His commitment to supporting our events and programs, as well as to giving and service, makes Fred the ideal recipient for this award,” said John Wellons, president and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. “There are many things that Boys & Girls Clubs do, but most people don’t understand the depth of our thinking and offerings. Fred does, and he always has.”

Fred Hertrich IV and the Hertrich family have been proud sponsors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware for over two decades. Their contributions have spanned three generations and the entire state of Delaware. The Hertrichs were instrumental in building both the Western Sussex and Milford clubs, contributing to general operating funds, funding sports leagues, donating toward scholarships, and supporting countless special events like the Masquerade Ball. As the Hertrich family has grown throughout the years, so has its support of the Boys & Girls Clubs.

Fred Hertrich IV has personally been involved in several projects, including sponsoring the New Castle Boys & Girls Club Basketball League, being a 1931 Club Sponsor of the Masquerade Ball and leading a significant capital campaign for the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club.

He and his team coordinated and sponsored one of the largest annual Boys & Girls Club summer field trips, taking 600 kids and 100 chaperones to the Delaware State Fair. Their generous sponsorship included transportation, lunch, admission, T-shirts, and planning and leading a packed itinerary full of educational experiences and countless firsts for many of the children.

“I believe in the Boys & Girls Club, and I believe in what they do for youth,” Hertrich said. “I am very passionate about helping the kids in our community and providing them with opportunities they may not otherwise have, and investing in their futures. That is what the Boys & Girls Club is all about, helping the kids that need it the most. There is a Boys & Girls Club in every community we serve in Delaware, so I think it has always been a natural fit to align ourselves with them and help them in any way that we can.”

Largely due in part to his significant contributions to the community, Fred Hertrich IV is one of 51 nominees for the 2019 Time Dealer of the Year Award, a program that honors new-car dealers in America who exhibit exceptional performance in their dealerships and perform distinguished community service.

“It is important to me that our organization is a pillar of the community,” Hertrich said. “That is why we do what we do, so we can give back and support the impactful individuals around us. I am incredibly humbled and grateful to be selected as the recipient of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware’s 2019 Great Futures Award, but even more, I am proud of the impact we have been able to have on the lives of the children in our community by working with this incredible organization.”
