Cape baseball downs Smyrna in shortened game

May 8, 2025

The Cape baseball team used 14 hits to rout visiting Smyrna 11-1 on Senior Day May 6 at Chris Short Field. The win moves the Vikings to 13-1 on the season.

Brady Kosc led the Cape offense with three hits and three runs scored. Emmett Wheatley and Malachi Woods each had doubles and each scored twice.

Brothers Jase and Liam Mitchell each had two hits.

Jaxon Clampitt toed the rubber for four innings, scattering four hits and striking out four batters.

“We were excited to play on Senior Day,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “Jaxon took the mound and did a nice job commanding pitches and getting outs. We took advantage of some errors early and put up three runs. They changed their pitcher in the fifth inning, and we exploded for six to put them away after five innings. We played clean defensive baseball as well. Jacob came in and had a clean inning in the fifth as we were trying to keep pitch counts down because we have three games this week.”

Dylan Oakley had three hits and a run scored for Smyrna.

Cape will play at Conrad at 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 9.
