Cape Henlopen class of 1988 reunion planned for Nov. 24 in Dewey Beach

November 18, 2018

Alumni volunteer prep rallies are in full swing as the Cape Henlopen High School Class of 1988 feverishly gears up for its 30th class reunion set for 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, Bayside at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach.

This reunion is more meaningful than the 20th and the 10th. An amazing 30 years have passed since these Vikings strutted down the blue and gold graduation aisle on that dazzling June day.

These are the Generation Xers - the demographic cohorts who shadow the baby boomers and precede the Millennials. Progressively they uniquely folded together like few other communities do: Lewes, Rehoboth and Milton - three elementary schools, three junior high schools until they all came together into one high school.

The folding together meant many of them knew one another from kindergarten on up, not just from high school itself. At that time, this graduating class was the one of the largest from Cape, nearly 250 students. After 30 years, class members recognize they are more alike than different, in no small part because they embarked on their adult journeys at the same moment.

Cost is $40 per person, $75 per couple, which includes hors d’oeuvres, desserts and live music by Rick Arzt, Love Seed Mama Jump and DJ Hector. Gift packages will be raffled with 100 percent of the proceeds going to help Cape students and families in need.
