More than 250 students from all Cape Henlopen School District schools converged on Champions Field Oct. 27 for a Special Olympics bocce tournament.

Cape Supervisor of Special Programs Eileen Baker said the tournament was the first of its kind for the district, and that Cape was the only district in the state in which all schools participated.

About 50 Cape High students served as volunteer scorekeepers and unified partners, Baker said.

“It was a really neat experience to see the camaraderie and high-fives from students representing their schools together,” Baker said.

Each school’s physical education teacher took the lead coaching their team, Baker said, and students have already said they want to hold another tournament.
