Cape Region focuses on Transit of Venus

June 9, 2012

A crowd of locals and visitors showed up at Roosevelt Inlet in Lewes June 5 to get a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse of the Transit of Venus. With the help of the Sussex Astronomy Club, visitors were able to see the event, which will not occur for another 105 years. With the use of sun-viewing glasses, projections and sun filters, observers watched the slow progress of Venus as the planet crossed in front of the sun.

Shown is an image taken through an 11-inch Celestron telescope with a sun filter on the lens, brought to the viewing by Mike Phoebus of Millsboro.
