Cape Region needs Nikki Miller

April 5, 2024

Every two years, Sussex County voters have the opportunity to contemplate the qualities and experience of their representative candidates in Georgetown, Dover and Washington, D.C. Voters taking advantage of this opportunity form the basis of our democratic republic.

Voters in Representative District 20 have an opportunity in this election to evaluate their options and hopefully make a well-informed decision. Nikki Miller, EdD, is an energetic young woman with a list of meaningful accomplishments. During her career, Nikki has initiated and successfully brought to fruition many programs as an educator and school administrator in Sussex County.

In 2022, this first-generation college graduate earned her doctorate in district leadership.  That same year, she was selected as a Pathways to Success Pay It Forward recipient.  Her resume includes a long litany of professional accomplishments that include being a Wilmington University adjunct professor; the first female principal of Cape Henlopen High School; a DE School for Professional Learning panelist, and more. Coastal Style Magazine recognized Nikki’s talents and named her School Administrator of the Year in 2019.

Nikki’s resourcefulness and creativity were on full display during the COVID crisis. By the winter of the 2020-21 academic year, Nikki had developed and implemented a hybrid instruction model offering two to three days of in-person instruction weekly, with five days per week for special education students.  The following year, while other schools continued the shutdown, Nikki successfully implemented her team’s plan to have students return to in-person learning five days per week, with no shutdowns.

For anyone wondering how Nikki will serve her constituents, you need only review the unique way she handled the 2020 Cape Henlopen HS graduation. While many schools were stymied by the challenge of how to provide a “normal” high school graduation experience for seniors, Nikki creatively arranged for an outdoor recognition ceremony at Hudson Fields, and later, when restrictions were lifted, an in-person graduation was held. Furthermore, she created individualized yard signs for students, heralding their unique accomplishments to their neighbors.

In Legislative Hall, the Cape Region needs an active and hardworking public servant as their state representative. Dr. Miller has a proven record of ensuring the success and safety of others, and she knows that working collaboratively matters. Nikki Miller is the new voice and vote for positive change that we need locally to get the Cape Region back on track. Join me and so many others who are in her corner as the bipartisan leader and thoughtful problem solver we need serving us.
