Cape swimming celebrates seniors with win over Central

The Cape boys’ swim team moved to 8-0 with a 119-38 victory over Sussex Central Feb. 9, while the Lady Vikings swam to 7-2 with a 105-43 victory.

Cape’s 200 medley relay team of Thomas Weeks, Doug Heid, Liam Leishear and Marcus Gromofsky took first with a time of 1:58.07. The 200 freestyle was won by Dylan Steinwedel in 2:04.38. Brian Fleming topped the 200 individual in 2:15.83. Josh Reinhold bested the field in the 50 free with a time of 23.62. Weeks won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.53. Gromofsky took first in the 500 free in 5:36.77. Aaron Senturk, L.B. Harrington, Andrew Criswell and Heid won the 200 free relay in 1:48.76, while Gromofsky finished the meet with a 1:10.70 victory in the 100 breaststroke.

Central’s Breyden Wright won the 100 freestyle in 50.43 and the 100 backstroke in 56.70.

The Lady Vikings’ 200 medley relay of Julie Heffernan, Amaya and Aya Daisey, and Erin Morrissey won with a time of 2:02.46. Gabriella Robertson took first in the 50 free with a time of 28.73. Aya Daisey won the 100 free in an untimed race. Morrissey won the 500 free with a time of 6:48.59. The 200 free relay was won by Anna Sullivan, Amaya and Aya Daisey, and Heffernan in 1:51.59. Amaya Daisey took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.94. Finishing the meet was the winning 400 free relay team of Emma Reist, Sophie Schoenfeld, Ciera Barnett and Chloe Wood with a time of 4:50.06.

Central’s Madelynn McTeer won the 200 freestyle in 2:09.47 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.49. Carolyn Munoz took first in the 200 individual medley in 2:32.47 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.79.

Cape celebrated the Class of 2021, which included Erin Morrissey, Melanie Fritchman, Amaya and Aya Daisey, Julie Heffernan and Lindsay Rambo on the girls’ side, and Thomas Weeks, Liam Leishear, L.B. Harrington, Aaron Senturk, Thomas Taylor, Douglas Heid and Sam Schoenfeld from the boys’ team.

The Sussex Central senior class members Carolyn Munoz and Isiah Brittingham were also honored.

The Vikings were set to host Dover Thursday, Feb. 11, before participating in the Henlopen Conference Championships Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Sussex Academy Aquatic Center.
