Cape swimming gets wins over Polytech

The Cape boys’ and girls’ swim teams each earned a win over Polytech Jan. 15 at the Sussex Academy Aquatic Center.

The Cape boys garnered a 96-65 victory, while the girls’ squad took a 101-60 win, each sweeping every event in the meet.

The Cape 200 medley relay team of Dylan Steinwedel, Thomas Weeks, Brian Fleming and Josh Reinhold took top honors in a time of 1:52.04. The 200 freestyle was won by Josh Turek in 1:59.6. The 200 individual medley was won in a time of 2:14.1 by Weeks. Reinhold took the 50 free in a personal best of 23.49. The 100 butterfly was won by Fleming in 59.79. Marcus Gromofsky garnered first in the 100 free in 51.09. Fleming took first in the grueling 500 in a time of 5:24.99. The 200 free relay team of Gromofsky, Reinhold, LB Harrington and Aaron Senturk took first in 1:38.19. Gromofsky followed by winning the 100 backstroke in 1:02.43. Weeks won first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.39, and the 400 free relay of Fleming, Turek, Weeks and Steinweidel ended the meet with a win in 3:45.3.

The girls’ 200 medley relay team of Anna Sullivan, Amaya and Aya Daisey, and Erin Morrissey took first in 2:05.7. Heidi Simmons followed with a 2:18.9 victory in the 200 free. Aya Daisey won the 200 individual medley in 2:31.6, and Erin Morrissey won the 50 free in 27.41. The 100 butterfly was won by Aya Daisey in 1:05.1. Morrissey took first in the 100 free in 59.91. Simmons followed in 6:09.02 to garner first in the 500 free. The 200 free relay team of Daisey, Daisey, Morrissey and Sullivan took a 1:53.09 finish for first place. Alissa Silva won the 100 backstroke in 1:14.08, while Amaya Daisey won the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.9. Cape’s 400 free relay team of Julie Heffernan, Molly Mendes, Gabriella Robertson and Silva finished the meet by winning in 4:27.84.

“Both the girls and boys did really well,” said assistant coach Pete Olson. “Our team is well balanced from our older swimmers on down to our newest ones. We are excited about the season and hope we can keep everyone healthy. It was great getting to see the kids having fun again.”

The Vikings were set to host Sanford Jan. 18 at the Sussex Academy Aquatic Center. They’ll host Sussex Tech Friday, Jan. 22, at the Sussex Academy pool in Georgetown.
