Cape volleyball holds awards banquet

Shuttleworth garners MVP honors

The 2017 Cape Henlopen Vikings volleyball squad held its awards banquet Nov. 19 at Fish On in Lewes. Senior setter Logan Suttleworth took the team MVP award. Shuttleworth had 288 assists, bumped 112 digs, knocked down 53 kills, served 58 aces and roofed 13 blocks on the season. She reached the 1,000-assist milestone in the win over Dover. She also was voted first-team all-conference and second-team all-state. Joining her with all-conference honors was senior Sophie Spinelli, who was voted to the first team. Spinelli had 138 kills, 38 aces, 18 blocks, 87 digs and three assists.

Mikiyah Ennals was given the varsity sportsmanship award, and Taylor Iacono was presented the junior varsity sportsmanship award. Abbey Derrickson was presented with the Golden Flamingo Award. The award is presented to the player who pushes their teammates to be the best they can be, is the ultimate competitor and is always there to support their team.
