Christmas golf gift opportunities

There is still time to find something nice for golf-loving friends and family members among the Cape Region’s golf courses and other golf-related businesses.

American Classic Golf Club

American Classic near Midway will be holding a flash sale on gift cards Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 19 and 20. Every $50 card earns $10 in club credit, up to $50 per person. Donations are also being taken for the Veterans Home through Thursday, Dec. 21.

Steve Smith PGA

Local PGA Professional Steve Smith takes reservations for lessons at his Swing Suite located next door to the Verizon store on Route 1 in Rehoboth.

Gift certificates are available for those seeking a tune-up or with an interest in learning solid swing basics in a private, comfortable environment this winter.

Stenger's Shamrock Farms Par 3

Bob and Wendy Stenger’s charming par 3 layout at 22222 Saw Mill Road, west of Milton, is open year-round. The course will celebrate its 20th anniversary of opening next May as a great place for beginners and seasoned players working on the short game.

Greens fees are $18, and pull cart rentals are only a dollar.

The Foreland Club

The Cape Region’s first 24/7 access, fully indoor golf club opened earlier this year at 24 Village Green Drive in Ocean View, directly across the street from the Bear Trap Dunes clubhouse.

PGA pro Dustin Smale installed three Trackman simulators, with options to play more than 250 championship golf courses or practice like tour players. Lessons and custom clubs from all major equipment manufacturers are available.

Foreland’s new “resident pro” is Ryan Diehl of Eastern Shore Custom Club, formerly with Cripple Creek Country Club. He offers tailored lessons as well as fittings.

The Rookery 

The Rookery offers several discounts at its pro shop at 27052 Broadkill Road, east of Route 1 near Milton. 

Golf shoes, shirts and golf bags are 25% off. There’s also a grab bag holding select golf clubs for sale at 35% off. In addition, Director of Golf Butch Holtzclaw and head pro Kyle Deas are selling half-hour golf lessons for $60. Gift certificates are also available.

Hooper’s Landing 

Hooper’s Landing offers public golf in Seaford at reasonable prices. Cape Henlopen High alum Mike Connor is the head golf pro.

Connor says men’s golf polos and outerwear are 25% off, with ladies clothing at 40% off. Footjoy shoes are 15% off. All putters and wedges are 10% off. 

Demo clubs for the 2023 season are available for up to 45% off normal retail, and hats can be bought for 20% off. Callaway Chrome Soft golf balls are being sold at employee pricing to help clear the shelves.

Connor is also selling lesson packages, including a five hour-long lessons option.

Baywood Greens

Head golf pro Anthony Hollerbeck said the exclusively public golf course near Millsboro had a busy season. 

The pro shop has a ladies’ and men’s sales rack with 25% off for the holiday season. You can also find plenty of other stuff along with gift certificates.

Mulligan’s Pointe

The popular Georgetown club has several membership plans and packages for 2024. The pro shop is well-stocked, and gift certificates are available.

For those considering joining the club, the Ladies Day on Tuesday and Men’s League on Wednesday afternoons are popular with the current membership.

Plantation Lakes

The Millsboro golf course’s clubhouse and pro shop are well worth a visit. The shop is offering clearance pricing for Stealth2 products. Vokey SM9 wedges are on sale at $149.99 each. There is also a 15% discount on all in-stock putters.

Plantation Lakes apparel options include thermal gloves, cart mitts, beanies and snoods. The shop’s golf balls stock is also offered at the minimum advertised pricing.

Midway Par 3

This family-owned golf course is a longtime Cape Region favorite for locals and tourists.

Club Champion

The club-fitting company went international in 2023, merging with fitters in Canada, Great Britain and Australia. It also added several locations across the United States.
