Clearing up school board election rumors

May 7, 2023

There are several rumors being spread about Cape Henlopen school board challenger Shawn Lovenguth that are false and, frankly, show that the incumbent and her supporters realize how vulnerable she is given her seven-year history.

The first one questions Shawn’s political affiliation in this nonpartisan race. So much for nonpartisan. Shawn has been a Democrat since he first registered to vote at age 18 and he is 50 years old. The incumbent is also a Democrat.

Another lie is that he wants to dismantle the school libraries. Of course, this is ludicrous. Shawn believes books should be age appropriate for the students and that these decisions should be made at the local level. Parents have and should have the right to determine what books their children read. Cape currently has a successful board policy that can be referenced in section 110 of the Cape Henlopen School District board policy manual.

Whether or not you have children in school, everyone should vote in this local election, especially if you are a property taxpayer in Sussex County. Did you know that approximately 90% of your property taxes go to the schools? You have a vested interest, whether or not you have children in school.

Vote Shawn Lovenguth for Cape schools.
