Unitarian Universalists to meet Feb. 7
The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will hold an online service at 10 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 7. This service will reflect on ways of nurturing a personal interior melodic harmony and its benefits to inner serenity and beloved community. Council meeting to include Hindu prayers Feb. 8
The Milford City Council, for the first time since its incorporation in 1807, will start its day Monday, Feb. 8, with Hindu prayers containing verses from the world’s oldest extant scriptures. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed will deliver the invocation from ancient Sanskrit scriptures remotely before the council meeting. He will then read the English interpretation of the prayers, saying, “Lead us from the unreal to the real; lead us from darkness to light, and lead us from death to immortality.” He will urge council members and all those present to keep the welfare of others always in mind.
Hinduism, the oldest and third-largest religion of the world, has about 1.2 billion adherents, and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. There are about 3 million Hindus in the U.S.
Toastmasters to host virtual open house Feb. 9
Southern Delaware Toastmasters invites Delmarva residents to its virtual open house at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9. Attendees will meet members and observe a club meeting to experience firsthand the importance of communication skills for today’s professional and learn how they can benefit from the Toastmasters public speaking and leadership programs.
The mission of the Southern Delaware Toastmasters club is to provide a supportive and positive environment where members can develop their communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. After hearing a brief introduction about Toastmasters and the event, members and guests can enjoy a regular, albeit shorter, Toastmasters meeting that will include prepared speeches, impromptu speeches called Table Topics, and speech evaluations. IR schools consider hybrid learning requests
Indian River School District parents and guardians wishing to shift their students from remote to hybrid instruction for the third marking period are asked to contact the child’s school. In considering such requests, schools will determine if social distancing guidelines of three feet or more between students can be maintained in the classroom setting. Additionally, schools must determine if transportation services can be provided with social distancing guidelines of three feet or more between students on school buses. Schools will log requests in the order received.
Schools will contact parents to discuss remote-to-hybrid requests prior to the start of the third marking period on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
