Cornhole tournament to benefit domestic violence survivors Sept. 16
A cornhole tournament with proceeds to benefit survivors of domestic violence is set for 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, at Crooked Hammock Brewery, 36707 Crooked Hammock Way, Lewes.
Open to the public and for players of any skill level, the event is being co-sponsored by What Is Your Voice, a Lewes-based organization that helps victims of domestic violence; Outloud Sports; and Serendipitous, Your Spiritual Oasis Awaits You, a spiritual retail shop in Long Neck where owner Patty Rickman does psychic readings.
The cost is $25 per person, with teams of two playing for prizes. Cornhole boards and bags will be provided, as well as bottled water. Music will be provided by Ice Productions DJ and there will be a 50/50 raffle.

“We are aggressively expanding our What is Your Voice campus in Lewes, and we are in the process of raising money to build a new residential home to house survivors of domestic violence and their children. This will be our second home. It will house four families,” said Jacqueline Sterbach, who founded What Is Your Voice in 2014.
“This organization supports women who have been abused. It’s not just housing; it’s holistic care. It’s body, mind and spirit, helping their kids get backpacks for schools. We do it all. As a domestic violence survivor, I realize how important these organizations are. We are pushing against living a lifestyle of the cycle of violence. We want to break that cycle because it’s generational. It is repeated in the next generation, unknowingly,” Sterbach said.
“As a survivor of domestic violence myself, I realize the importance of supporting Jacqueline as she helps those in desperate need who might have to escape a very dangerous situation. They wouldn’t have a place to go if it wasn’t for her good work,” said Rickman.
During the past 10 years, What Is Your Voice has helped about 500 Delaware families. Last year, there were 18,000 contacts made to the 24-hour hotline. The What Is Your Voice hotline number is 302-467-3310.
