COVID-19 hospitalizations hit new high

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations reached 338 Dec. 8, breaking the previous record by one.

At the same time, Division of Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay said positivity rates and hospitalization rates in Sussex County appear to be stabilizing. 

Gov. John Carney said he expects Delaware to receive its first round of vaccines in a week or so. Rattay said Delaware expects to receive 8,770 doses of the Pfizer vaccine by Dec. 15.

As of Dec. 7 data, Delaware has had 41,464 positive cases, or 441.7 per 10,000 people. More than half of the positive cases have occurred in New Castle County (23,576), with Sussex County second with 11,499. COVID-19 deaths surpassed 800 Dec. 7, with 803 people now having died from the virus. Of those, 448 were residents of long-term care facilities.
