Crooked Hammock hosts Best Wings on the Shore contest

February 7, 2024

More than 750 people showed up to Crooked Hammock Brewery in Lewes Feb. 4 for the 10th annual Best Wings on the Shore contest, hosted by Ocean 98.1.

The event brings together restaurants mainly from Ocean City, Md., and the Cape Region to see who can make the best chicken wings, as voted on by the crowd. Categories included best overall, hottest and most creative.

The wings were provided by Mountaire Farms, and the event raised $14,500 in entry donations for Ocean 98 Foundation’s Cash for College Fund, which helps local high school students pay for books at college.

In a repeat win, Matt’s Fish Camp took home the best overall award for its Sticky Icky wings.

Taking home the award for most creative wings was the team from Lewes Oyster House for its Wonka Wings, a Willy Wonka-themed dish that featured a mix of blueberry and chipotle, cacoa nibs, basil, lime and, to top it off, edible 24-karat gold.

The award for hottest wings went to Thompson Island Brewing Company.
