Defending Democracy film fundraiser set March 24

March 12, 2025

In partnership with the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, the League of Women Voters of Sussex County will present its second annual Defending Democracy fundraiser featuring screenings of “Women’s March" and "Of Lost Conversations," from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, March 24, at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive, Lewes.

The two documentaries touch on historic and contemporary challenges to democracy.

Shining a light on the iconic role of Rosie the Riveter – including an interview with one of the original Rosies – and the continued battle for women’s rights, these films are not only enlightening, but also guaranteed to inspire women and men alike to treasure and exercise their right to vote.

A reception with light refreshments will open the evening. A 50/50 raffle will benefit the league and the winner whose ticket is drawn. Wine, beer and other drink proceeds benefit the film society.

“The league has sponsored six candidate forums throughout Sussex County in the last six months,” said Lisa Welle Malone, LWVSC vice president and candidate forum chair. “We look forward to having enough funds to pay for venues to continue our candidate forum work along with other activities addressing voter education, voter registration and other issues of concern to Sussex County citizens.”

Ticket and raffle sales go directly to the all-volunteer, nonpartisan league in support of its work to empower voters and defend democracy in Sussex County.
