Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball falls to Wi Hi, defeats Mallards

December 12, 2024

The Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball team moved to 3-1 on the season with a 56-43 victory over the host Mallards of Worcester Prep Dec. 10.

Freshman Darrius Liles scored 18 points to lead the Royals. He also picked up valuable steals. Malachi Light and Landon Jackson each had 16 points, with Light hitting four three-pointers.

”DJ Liles got in foul trouble early,” said Royals head coach Marc Hannah. “But the other guys stepped up, and we played great team basketball.”

“We played really good defense,” said Hannah. “We boxed out way better than the day before against Wi Hi.”

Against Wicomico High School of Salisbury, Md., Dec. 9, the Royals came up short with an 82-66 loss at home.

DJ Liles scored 18 to lead the Royals. He is averaging 13.5 points per game so far this season. Light picked up 16 points. Darrius Liles hit for 11 points.

The Royals put up a fight, but the Indians caused turnovers and converted them into transition baskets.

“We gave up 17 offensive rebounds in the first half,” said Hannah. “That is what put us in the hole. The late turnovers killed the momentum on our comeback. But I’m encouraged. We had 17 offensive rebounds, which means we had 17 stops. We just need to finish and we will be OK.”

The Royals will host Salisbury Christian Friday, Dec. 13. Game time is 6 p.m.
