Delmarva Christian girls’ soccer pumped to perform on pitch
They may be playing their home games away from home this season, but the Delmarva Christian girls’ soccer team is excited to show it can perform no matter the pitch location.
Seven freshmen will lace up for the Royals this spring, and they will be led by five seniors who think the young girls have a lot of potential.
“I am most looking forward to the outcome of the girls that are joining this year or are freshmen,” said senior Emelia Faubert. “It would be really great just to work together as a team in that way with new bonds and create that teamwork that is unique for every single team.”
“This year, we have a lot of connections,” senior Eva Elliott said. “We'll really be able to play as a group.”
The energy from the new girls has Delmarva Christian wanting to lay a proper foundation for a strong future.
“Really looking forward to getting to hang out with these girls, especially the new girls … get them to really love soccer so they can stay flying for the next four years,” senior Hayley Jones said.
Hopefully by the time they are seniors they will be able to play their home games on a beautiful new campus, but for this year, they’ll head a bit north to host contests.
“We're going to Sandhill Fields to play our games, and I think we'll push through it,” senior Alyse Potter said. “Maybe we'll be better because of it.”
“We have some unique challenges,” coach Curtis Jones said. “We lost several seniors last year that were kind of our defensive line, so we almost have to rebuild that from scratch. This year, though, one of the things that is exciting is almost half the team is new.”
Jones said some new players bring soccer experience, while the girls who are new to the game are blessed athletically. All hands will need to be on deck when the Royals start their 2026 cruise. With the exception of Sussex Academy, Delmarva Christian will play every school in the Henlopen South, and 10 of their games are against public schools.
“We are excited because I think we have a favorable schedule, but at the same time, we still have some really tough routes throughout there,” Jones said.
Delmarva Christian will kick off their season with an away game against Holly Grove Christian School (Md.) at 4 p.m., Friday, March 27.
