Hundreds of prospective buyers filled the Town of Dewey Beach’s Cedar Grove Road storage lot Sept. 14 for the much-anticipated auction of military surplus equipment.

Town Manager Scott Koenig said he expects to have official sales numbers from Emmert Auction Associates within the next few days. Koenig said to his knowledge, all items were sold. He said any remaining items would be evaluated and probably taken to the landfill.

“The preliminary unofficial gross proceeds from the auction are approximately $225,000,” Koenig said. “This upper-end number will be reduced by the auctioneer’s percentage and other costs associated with the auction.”

Koenig said the gross proceeds included town items that were auctioned, such as lifeguard stands and signs, as well as items acquired through the military surplus program.

Proceeds from the sale of town equipment will be separated for general government use, Koenig said.

All proceeds from the sale of military equipment will be deposited to the police department restricted account and may be used to purchase supplies or equipment for the police department upon town manager approval, Koenig said.
