Dewey Mayor Bill Stevens sworn in for fifth consecutive term
Several Dewey Beach incumbent officials were sworn in for new terms during town council’s monthly meeting Sept. 26.
Those inaugurated included Mayor Bill Stevens, who was unanimously elected by his fellow commissioners for a fifth consecutive one-year term, and Commissioners Elisabeth Gibbings, David Jasinski and Paul Bauer, who were all elected to two-year terms.
The municipal election had been set for Sept. 20, but was canceled for the fifth straight year when only the incumbents filed to run.
Jasinski, who was out of town at the time of the inauguration, joined and took his oath via Zoom. It will be his third full term as a commissioner, though he has also previously served two partial terms – one in 2020 after the passing of former commissioner and Mayor TJ Redefer, and one about 10 years ago when a former commissioner resigned for health reasons.
It is Gibbings’ third term.
Bauer, who was first elected in 2017, was also sworn in for his eighth consecutive one-year term as council secretary. In this role, he is responsible for leading council meetings or managing other tasks when the mayor is unavailable, and for keeping minutes of council’s executive sessions.
Town Alderman Ronda McIntyre administered the oaths.
