Dolores Rickards West, deputy recorder of deeds

Mrs. Dolores Rickards West, 89, of Millsboro passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home. 

Dolores was born in Philadelphia, Pa., July 29, 1929, to the late John L. and Elizabeth Warden Rickards. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by five siblings, Ada Bunting, Virginia Hitchens, Ellison Rickards, Edna Hudson and Donald Rickards.

Dolores married Roland E. West June 30, 1951, and from that union had two children.

She served as Deputy Recorder of Deeds for Sussex County and co-farmed with her husband until 1953. She loved vegetable and flowers gardening, collecting glassware, and spending time with her family especially with her grandchildren.  Dolores will be remembered as a kind and caring person who put others’ needs ahead of herself.  She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Roland E. West of Millsboro; a daughter, Cheryl Roach of Millsboro; and a son, Richard West and his wife Dianna of Millsboro.  Dolores also leaves behind five grandchildren: Christine Anderson (Craig), Jennifer Leonard (Ty), Charlene Brown (Kyle), D.J. Roach, and Shelley Roach as well as six great-grandchildren: Kiersten, Abrielle, Weston, Asher, Anberlin and Roxanne.  She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral will be held at noon, Saturday, June 15, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to oon for viewing and visitation.  Burial will follow in Millsboro Cemetery.
