Donald Lee Rollins, retired educator

July 30, 2025

Donald Lee Rollins, 93, affectionately known to friends and family as Don, passed away peacefully in Seaford Sunday, July 27, 2025. Born Sept. 13, 1931, in Purcellville, Va., Don lived a life marked by steadfast dedication and quiet strength, touching the hearts of many with his genuine kindness and warm smile.

After graduating from Frederick High School in 1948, Don furthered his education at Towson State Teachers College, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in school administration. His commitment to education was evident through his years of devoted service as an elementary school teacher and through his ultimate retirement as the esteemed principal of Sparks Elementary School in Sparks, Md.

Don's passion for community involvement was reflected in his active participation in the Kingsville, Md., Rotary Club. An avid sportsman, he not only excelled in semi-pro baseball in Frederick but also boasted the title of Frederick County Horseshoe Pitching Champion, endearing him to many as a local sports hero.

Beyond his professional and community endeavors, Don was a man of deep family values. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; and was a cherished father to his sons, David, John and Michael; and daughter, Amy. Don's legacy extends to his seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and he was overjoyed to witness the start of a fifth generation with the arrival of one great-great-grandchild. He found great joy in his growing family, even as he carried the sorrow of losing his parents, Lester and Irene Rollins, and his beloved daughters, Carol and Julie.

Those who knew Don will remember him for his steady presence, genuine kindness, and quiet dedication to others. Though we mourn his passing, we are grateful for the lasting impact he made on so many lives. He will be deeply missed.
