Dorothy K. Barrett, enthusiastic volunteer

Dorothy K. Barrett, 98, of Bethany Beach died peacefully in her home Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018

She was born in Baltimore, Md., April 13, 1920, the daughter of the late John F. Kidd and Madeline R. Kidd.

As her husband's employment required multiple relocations, Dorothy established homes in Philadelphia, Pa., Catonsville, Md., Belmont, Calif., Media, Pa., and Bethany Beach.  Mrs. Barrett was devoted to her husband and two daughters, and found great satisfaction in maintaining a joy-filled and organized home.

She was an enthusiastic volunteer over the years in schools, churches and choirs.

Mrs. Barrett played a significant role in the lives of her grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, and maintained attractive and inviting gardens into her later years. She enjoyed music, reading, tennis, golf and life at the beach.She was a former active member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church of Media, and of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany Beach.

Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Jack Barrett; sisters Catherine Thompson and Madalyn Keegan; and brothers William Kidd and Francis Kidd.

Mrs. Barrett is survived by two daughters, Nancy B. Raskauskas of Bethany Beach and Mary Barrett Crigger and her husband Dr. Charles D. Crigger of Charleston, W.Va. Six beloved grandchildren also survive her: Elizabeth A. Miller and her husband Marlon, Mary C. Gallagher and her husband Stephen, Stephen M. Raskauskas, Major David R. Crigger, U.S. Army and wife Major Dana M. Crigger, U.S. Army, Dr. Chad Barrett Crigger, and Emily P. Edens and her husband Staff Sgt. Thomas K. Edens, U.S. Army. Seven great-grandchildren also survive her: Logan, Breck, Lark, MJ, Declan, Kiera and Katherine.

Mrs. Barrett's daughters would like to thank the excellent staff of Griswold Home Health Care for her care over the past two years, in particular, Lynette Johnson who was exceptionally devoted to Dorothy and her family. Additionally, her daughters would like to thank Dr. Lawrence Kemp for his personal attention to Mrs. Barrett's health and well-being, and Father Paul F. Jennings of St. Luke's Catholic Church for his pastoral care in the last hours of her life. Finally, Compassionate Care Hospice is to be commended for their kindness and professionalism in her final days.

Memorial Services and Interment will be announced at a later date.
