Elks bring cheer to Stockley Center with Valentine’s Day party

March 4, 2026

Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 held a Valentine's Day celebration Feb. 10, when Community Outreach Committee members brought gifts and delight to Stockley Center residents and staff.

The local Elks committee has developed a close relationship with the center and its residents. The Stockley Center, located near Georgetown, is a Medicaid-certified care facility for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The 50-bed facility provides both intermediate and skilled nursing care for people with a variety of medical needs, as well as helping residents meet their physical, mental, personal and social goals.

This Valentine's Day party included singing, wheelchair dancing and gift bags for residents. The highlight of the day was the presentation of a giant Valentine's Day card signed with good wishes from more than 50 Elks members.

The Community Outreach Committee, led by Elks member Barb Gilsenan, encourages volunteers to participate in its regular visits with Stockley Center residents and help provide support to various local nonprofits assisting others. The Elks organization supports greater connection with all community members; part of its motto is Elks Care – Elks Share.
