Elks seek Americanism contest student entries until Dec. 15
Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 is now accepting entries for its Americanism Essay Contest and Poster Contest; the deadline for submissions is Sunday, Dec. 15.
A program of the Elks' Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee, the essay contest is geared toward students in fifth through eighth grades to promote patriotism among young people. This year’s theme is “What Does Patriotism Mean To Me?” There are awards for each grade level – $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. The contest judging starts with the local lodges, progresses through district and state levels, and ends with naming of the national winners at the Grand Lodge Session in Kansas City, Mo., in July 2025.
For the essay contest, each submitted essay is not to exceed 300 words; entries must be typed or legibly printed in ink and submitted as written or typed by the entrant. Essays must be submitted for judging to the Elks Lodge nearest to the address of the entrant: Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540, 18544 Beaver Dam Road, Lewes, DE 19958. Participant must be identified by name, grade, school attending and sponsoring Elks Lodge (Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540) on the essay.

The poster contest theme is “My Favorite American Symbol,” and the contest is open for children up to age 17. The form and information can be found at mddedcelks.org/americanism.html. All applications must include the cover page to identify the student and local Elks Lodge it is submitted to.
