Epworth UMC to host Green Fair April 6

Epworth United Methodist Church will host the Seventh Annual Green Fair from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, April 6. The public is invited to attend this free event in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Light refreshments will be served.

The goal of this fair is to instill new resolve for stewardship of the air, water, soil, and other resources of the Earth, and to give both parishioners and visitors new ideas for reducing human impact on the environment. For United Methodists, all of these resources, including minerals, energy, plants, animals and space are to be valued, not only because they are useful to human beings, but also because they are God’s creation.

Food will be the major emphasis at the Green Fair this year. Purveyors of organic and local produce, eggs, milk, meat and other food products will present interesting and informative displays. There will also be exhibits on such diverse topics such as residential and commercial building energy audits, oyster aquaculture, efforts to improve Inland Bays water quality, tankless hot water heaters, reverse osmosis water filters, and construction progress of the Gordons Pond Trail in Cape Henlopen State Park.

Organized by the Epworth Social Justice Committee, the Green Fair includes exhibits offering ideas for sustainable practices that prevent environmental damage and will enable the Rehoboth community to gather ideas and tips on saving energy, protecting the environment, and selecting healthy foods.

Food exhibitors include Fifer Orchards, Good Earth Market and the Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market featuring Delmarva-produced food. Veg Rehoboth will have an exhibit promoting the environmental and health benefits of vegan and vegetarian diets. Epworth’s Social Justice Committee will sell fair trade products from the Equal Exchange Co-op.

Other interesting Green Fair exhibitors include James Carfagno, beekeeper; CNC Solar; Delaware Interfaith Power and Light; Abbottt’s Mill Nature Center, and George Sherman Plumbing.

All are invited to attend and enjoy this free, informative and educational environmental event.
