F. Terry Carmine, services set

April 18, 2024

Frank “Terry” Carmine, 92, of Lewes, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, surrounded by his family. Terry was born in Millsboro, son of the late Frank Perry Carmine and Helena Dodd Carmine.

He attended the Millsboro School and met the love of his life, Bettylee. There wasn’t a job that Terry couldn’t do; he was employed at a local hardware store, and later by DuPont in Seaford. In 1954, the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware hired Terry as property manager of Camp Arrowhead on Rehoboth Bay. There, he and his wife raised a family, and lived and worked for 44-and-a-half years. Their legacy continues in the dedication of the Carmine Environmental Center, where hundreds visit each year.

Terry was an aviation enthusiast. He built and flew model airplanes with Lewes Radio Control Club, and took to the skies as a passenger and a student pilot. He was a longtime member and president of Lewes Lions Club, and served as a senior warden at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Lewes. Terry loved the craft of making things new again, and truly was the forerunner of reduce, reuse, and recycle. He liked to tinker in his workshop, ski, attend church services and luncheons, garden, ride his lawnmower, bargain hunt, care for homeless animals, entertain those around him with humor, and dance to bands, especially 33 and 1/3.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettylee Carmine. He is survived by a brother, Bruce Carmine; children, Debbie Simms (Rick), Kim Carmine (Peggy) and Kelly Stuchlik (Terry); grandchildren, Karin Simms Laroche (Drew), K.C. Carmine, Susan Simms Passwaters (Rhett), Melody Thomas-Wohlfeil (Paul) and Ben Stuchlik (Katie); great-grandchildren, Brogan Evick, Ashton Passwaters, Ian Laroche, Robert Keefe and Lilly Stuchlik; and dear friends, Joey Melchiorre and Rev. Dr. Jack Anderson.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 4, at Camp Arrowhead chapel; reception at Jane Clifton Ashford Center following service.

In honor of Terry, donations can be made to Camp Arrowhead, 913 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE  19803, memo: for Carmine Environmental Center, camparrowhead.net/giving.
