Families flock to Easter egg hunt
Families flocked to the historic Wolfe House March 22 for the inaugural Easter egg hunt hosted by the Sussex County Land Trust.
The nonprofit conservation organization held the event to kick off its 25th anniversary celebration.
“As the year goes on, we have a few other events [planned], and we wanted an opportunity for families to learn more about the trust and have a fun experience at the same time,” said Sara Bluhm, executive director.
Bluhm said those events include a Fourth of July drone show and bluegrass festival in November.
The Easter bunny was the star of the show, posing for pictures with young egg hunters. More than 500 eggs were scattered around the Wolfe House property for the kids to collect.
When asked what he was most looking forward to, Ryder Siok said candy. In fact, his shirt said he was even willing to trade his sister for some.
The Sussex County Land Trust is tasked with protecting natural, cultural, agricultural and recreational resources.
“Our mission is to safeguard and protect the spaces that make Sussex County special,” Bluhm said.
Wolfe House, the 18th century farm house that serves as the group’s headquarters, served as the background for the event. The building is located on state park property.
Among the land trust’s current projects is the acquisition of the Ard na Gréine parcel, which is 88 acres just outside Lewes city limits. It is hoping to take ownership later this year. The land will be preserved as public open space.
