Family Promise of Southern Delaware held its third annual community brunch May 10, when it recognized Lewes Presbyterian Church with its first Founding Sponsorship Award.

Based in Lewes, Family Promise, which formed in 2021, provides funding to keep people in their homes to prevent homelessness. The program supports families throughout Sussex County. The brunch was held at the Village Improvement Association’s clubhouse in Rehoboth Beach, with more than 100 people attending.

According to information handed out at the event, Family Promise averages about $678 per family served and about $316 per child served to avoid homelessness.

The program has served 296 families comprising 359 adults and 636 children. Between monthly rent, security deposit, first month’s rent and emergency hotel stays, the majority of the assistance is spent on housing, but Family Promise also helps with utilities.
